City council votes to extend eviction notice times, barely, over landlord tears
“Will somebody please think of the landlords!?”:
- The Minneapolis City Council heard hours of testimony from renters and neighbors about the eviction crisis. This included landlords who were “concerned for their livelihood” if evictions were paused even an additional 30 days. Local housing orgs also chimed in, although members of the community noted how quick they were to evict those they supposedly benefit. While the motion passed, the final vote is Thursday and may be subject to veto by Mayor Frey.
Post modern times in the Post Surge:
- The Modern Times restaurant considers making their donation model permanent. The restaurant had briefly been donations during the George Floyd Uprising, and came back to it again during the Surge.
It’s still not over:
- Posts on social media show new deliveries of ICE vans to the Whipple Building.
